Dear friends,
My favorite part of visiting a place is trying the food. In Hong Kong, my high school friend Kim took me to night markets in Tsim Shua Tsui and Mong Kok to taste the spectacular array of street food.
With Kim’s wife, parents, and grandma, we went to a dai pai dong, a type of open-air food stall, as well as a three-star Michelin restaurant for dim sum.
The best things I ate were home-cooked meals with Kim’s family. They invited me for poon choi, a Hakka festival meal full of succulent ingredients including duck and seafood.
This is only the start of the list as I ran out of room in this newsletter. But, I’ll be dreaming about Hong Kong’s food scene for years to come.
Until next week,
Ash
Night Markets and Street Food
Dai Pai Dong
An open-air stall famous in Hong Kong, only a few traditional ones are still in service, many have been shut down or relocated by the government.
Diners and Cafes
I could never turn down a HK diner for breakfast, lunch, or a milk tea or yuenyeung.
Michelin Star Restaurant
We went to the hotel where Kim and Rainbow were married to eat dim sum at the three-star Michelin restaurant that’s located there.
Family dinners and celebrations
Celebrating with poon choi, which loosely translates to “big bowl feast.” The dish was so savory and delicious, and it was fun to celebrate with Kim’s family.
Oh Ashleigh! The dim sum, the shell fish, the food! Fabulous~
The food made me so hungry!
