Thanks for your reply Ashleigh! It confirms that I need to be focusing on building my network especially with people I enjoy spending time with, instead of just people that I admire things about 😁 I have heard many people say good clients and eventually the foundation of a business can come from word of mouth.
That is crazy that there are so many ghost jobs..and jobs that so many people are applying to that my odds of securing it are extremely low, especially since I am not very experienced in this field. It helps to hear you frame it like this to help me feel less discouraged 😁
I will look into free courses too. I appreciate your advice!
What are your tips for someone without much experience in their desired field to get enough experience so more risk-averse or intentional clients/employers want to interview you? I want to start virtual assistance and admin support
I don’t have a specific course or learning path to recommend for those roles, but I think to get interviews right now, it’s more about finding and connecting with the right people who are hiring. Thinking about how to leverage the skills you already have and your network and find opportunities through word of mouth.
From what I’ve seen applying to jobs over the past year, a lot of applications (even for people with decades of experience) are getting lost as thousands of people apply for a single role. Often, a human interviewer will never review your application at all plus, the amount of roles that are “ghost jobs” and were never real to begin with.
So, if you can find a real person who knows a real person who is hiring/ interviewing and who can recommend you, that’s going to help enormously.
Focus on the skills you already have for admin support/ VA roles (you can strengthen any desired skills through free courses and continued learning; I’ve used Udemy in the past but I’m sure there are better options)
But right now, it feels less about your years of experience and more about getting seen by potential employers in the first place.
When I move back to my hometown, I might look for Remote jobs! Thanks Ash for sharing 😀
Working from the Cameron Highlands sounds like a dream, ER!
Absolutely Ash... Away from the city life! 😊
Good
Nice thanks for the motivation! I thought it would be much easier finding remote jobs these days but I quickly discovered that isn’t the case.
It’s rough out there; I haven’t seen a market this bad in years. I know it’s a struggle so best of luck on your search 🤞🏻
