We are in South America now. I have no idea when we will leave (it has been 5 months). Peru is up next. It is so big! Unless we get more than 3 months we are going to have to skip lots of things. But hopefully we will get a chance to return some day. i've enjoyed your stories. I need to read more from Peru.
There’s a lot to see and do! I spent six weeks just in Cusco and barely scratched the surface. Thankfully, you can’t go wrong wherever you visit. Enjoy your trip and let me know if you have questions. :)
Good article! I want to go back. Haven’t seen Iguazu Falls yet, nor anything in Brazil. Loved Galapogos, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina. And especially the trip around the horn from Chile to BA.
So true, Ashleigh! Six months in South America sounds like plenty of time, but there's so much to see. There are so many places to fall in love with. Your list inspired me to save up for another backpacking trip! I thoroughly enjoy your whole series. Bravo!
Dan, I know, you need a lifetime, and I’m already itching to go back! If I hadn’t been on a time crunch to make it back in time for my mom’s 60th, I could have easily stayed another six months. Thanks for your support and inspiring me to sign up for Substack in the first place!
What a blast! I've only been to Chile because my daughter lived there for nine years, but greatly enjoyed it. Did you partake of the torta de amor? Sigh...
Toni, I wish! I was in Chile for about a week and spent most of the time hiking in Torres del Paine National Park. I would love to go back and have some torta de amor!
Thank you, Yuezhong! When I first started traveling, I would find jobs in the regions I wanted to visit and travel on my days off. About four years ago, I transitioned to remote work, and two years ago, I started traveling and working remotely at the same time. I wrote a blog post with some FAQs when I started, but feel free to message me any other questions you have! travel-bugg.org/2022/12/01/work-remotely-traveling-faqs/
Thank you, Sascha! My Swedish travel partner went to Florianópolis and had nothing but good things to say about it. It has a beachy laidback vibe, and she did a lot of hiking. I stayed with some good friends in São Paulo and didn’t end up going, but she really enjoyed it!
What an elaborate extraordinary fun-filled adventure you've been having, Ashleigh! Your photos are great (the mountains in first are so awesome, you've told me the name before) and the maps w/ kilometers pegged are a nice touch. Fabuloso!
Thank you, Jeanine! I really appreciate you reading along and your kind comments throughout! And yes, Cerro Chaltén is incredible, one of my favorite places in Patagonia 😊
Great article. I love South America. I have done Peru, Chlie, Patagonia and Argentina.
I am going to Rio and Antartica in late November. I'll be in Rio for six days. Other than the beaches (which are not on the top of my list) what places are an absolute must.

Thank you, David! Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands are top of my list when I go back. I definitely recommend Brazil, one of my favorite countries!
Never been to South America but want to visit eventually, so I will definitely be saving this post for the future.
Thanks Christine, you will have a blast!
Next time do not skip the Amazon rainforest!
It is such a dream to visit!!

This is such an impressive list! I am just in awe!
How do you travel and work at the same time?!! I'd love to read more about that!

This was great! Now where are we going?
Thank you 😊 I am heading on my first trip to Asia, starting in South Korea in November!
What a great reference guide for those interested in traveling in this region!!
Thank you so much! I hope others find it helpful 😊
Wow, this is such a great guide. I've heard amazing things about Medellín. I'm also curious about Florianopolis in Brazil.

Grate article!
Thank you, Neera! That sounds like a wonderful trip. I really enjoyed the Royal Portuguese Reading Room, the Selaron Stairs, Parque Loge and Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio. The Santa Teresa neighborhood is also nice for a visit. Here are all my top spots: open.substack.com/pub/travelbugg/p/what-to-do-in-rio-de-janeiro?r=a4uh8&utm_medium=ios
Thanks. I will check them out.
Hope you enjoy your trip! I really want to visit Antarctica one day 😊
