I chose to give birth in Singapore 19 years ago instead of in Bangkok because of how pedestrian friendly it is. (We were living in Cambodia at the time and the facilities there were not great). It was very family-friendly too, as we went there later on holidays with little ones. I'd love to go back now and see all the developments. It's true there are downsides, but the city certainly takes its quality of life and sustainability plans seriously.
Wow, thank you for sharing, Lisa! I’m glad Singapore ended up being the best choice for your family at the time. I hope you can return; I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on the changes!
Singapore! Love it, as do you. The electric trees lightshow was wild. Cloud Forest was amazing as were the regular botanical gardens. And loved the wide beautiful streets with huge trees draping over, reminiscent to me of parts of Honolulu. Oh and the FOOD! Cheap and excellent and so so so tasty! Great photos Ashleigh.
I love how you make an effort to connect with local people wherever you travel--it adds such depth to your writing, as you get to use your "outside" status to the fullest, balancing the tourist and local perspectives.
Singapore is such an interesting place--I spent a day there on a visa run from Indo a few years back. The main thing I remember is how small the architecture made me feel. It was like the city and its system just completely overwhelmed the individual. Didn't feel like a very welcoming place, but it certainly felt like a comfortable one--it's great reading about the uncomfortable side of it here, thank you
Thank you, Rebecca. I’m very fortunate to have friends and locals kind enough to show me around their cities. It makes traveling much more worthwhile, especially when you’ve been solo traveling for a while! Thank you again for your kind words. 😌

Love this! One of the best places to visit in Singapore.
Thank you, Janice! 💚

Thank you, Jeanine! The hawker centers and green spaces were top tier 💚

Absolutely Ash!
My 1st job was in Singapore after I came back from Scotland in 80s. MRT was just started then! Economy was quite bad then!
ER, it would be fascinating to see how much the MRT has changed since the 80s!
